Ellen Trout Park & Zoo
The award winning Ellen Trout Park & Zoo is one of Lufkin’s most popular attractions for visitors of all ages. One of the best small town zoos in Texas beautifully display’s hundreds of animals in a very natural setting. The zoo also provides a miniature train ride across the lake among the trees and other vegetation.

Texas Forestry Museum
The museum contains a vast amount of exhibits from a logging locomotive, log loader, log car and depot from the early sawmill era. Bob Flournoy’s detailed model of the township of Manning TX, is also a favorite item on display. Bob actually grew up living in the Mansion on Sawmill Lake. Open seven days a week, free admission.

The Museum of East Texas
This museum offers changing exhibitions of art and history, lectures and gallery talks by artists, workshops and classes for children and adults, summer Art Camp, Super Saturdays, and guided tours by appointment. Open seven days a week, free admission.

Naranjo Museum of Natural History
The Naranjo Museum of Natural History is the lastest addition to Lufkin’s museum and education. They have exibits like a moon rock display of an Apollo 15, an Astronaut suit, to Dinosaur Fossils and so much more

Cassels Boykin Park
Beautiful park on Sam Rayburn Lake near Zavalla. This park hosts fishing tournaments, weddings, family reunions and other special events.

The Pineywoods Purgatory is certainly a true test of biking endurance. The ride takes place in early October and offers four rides ranging from 25 to 102 miles.

Neches River Rendezvous
An annual scenic 10 mile canoe trip down the Neches River that frames the southwest boundary of Angelina County. The river is only a few miles from Manning. It is described in Dick Donovan’s book “Paddling the Wild Neches River” and is the focus of Miriam Tatum’s book “River Road”.
Lufkin, Texas is a Tree City USA, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation. The City and Angelina County provide choice habitat for many species of birds.
